16ème conférence internationale Metropolis, Ponta Delgada, du 12 au 16 septembre 2011
La 16ème conférence internationale Metropolis s’est tenue du 12 au 16 septembre 2011 à Ponta Delgada, aux Açores.
Metropolis est un forum international favorisant la recherche comparative et l’élaboration de politiques publiques sur la migration, la diversité et l’intégration des migrants. Il permet ainsi d’établir des liens entre le monde de la recherche, les décideurs politiques, les organisations internationales et les organisations non gouvernementales dans le domaine de la migration.
Tandis que les précédentes conférences se sont principalement concentrées sur la migration et l’intégration vues du point de vue des pays de destination, le but de la conférence de cette année visait à attirer l’attention sur les mouvements migratoires et les changements démographiques abordés du point de vue des pays d’origine.
Dans le cadre de cette conférence, le Réseau européen des migrations a organisé 3 ateliers :
- From perceptions to policy : Using public perceptions of migration to inform policy development
- Under-explored aspects of emigration : Observations from developed countries
- Irregular migration : Perspectives from both countries of origin and destination
Le REM a également profité de cette occasion pour présenter son travail et ses publications à un large public.

Irregular migration : perspectives from both countries of origin and destination
Short Summary
There is typically a focus on destination countries when considering the consequences of irregular migration. This workshop, however, explored the perspectives, impacts and management of irregular migration from both countries of origin and destination. Set in the framework of the European Migration Network study on "Practical Measures for Reducing Irregular Migration" (forthcoming end 2011), the workshop analysed the shift of migration control mechanisms from national to transnational co-ordinations, partnership working and challenges brought about by differing perceptions of irregular migration.
